Scottie Scheffler breaks down during Star Spangled Banner

The world’s number one ranked golfer showed his patriotism by shedding tears during the flag-raising ceremony at the Olympics in France.

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s number one ranked golfer, played a stellar final round to overtake several other players and move into the gold medal position.

Spain’s Jon Rahm led by four strokes going into the final round but was ultimately no match for Scheffler, who fired in a brilliant 62, the best score of the tournament, to win by one stroke.

“Hopefully he’ll win a few more games this year. I think he’s a good guy.”

in -19Scheffler beat Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood, who won the silver medal at -18, and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who won the bronze medal at -17.

The next closest was American Xander Schauffele, who tied for ninth place.

Scheffler was not on the team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Schauffele winning the gold medal for the U.S. in Japan.
