Scottie Scheffler charged with felony assault

The PGA Tour’s top golfer and reigning Masters champion was arrested and charged outside the PGA Championship course entrance. The charges included a felony charge against a police officer.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested in a bizarre incident after he refused to stop at the scene of an accident near the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, said Scheffler was taken into custody after he “misunderstood traffic flow and attempted to drive past officers into Valhalla Golf Club.”

Scheffler, who had won the Masters just a month earlier, reportedly asked Darlington, “Can you help me?” when he was in custody. The officer ordered Darlington to back away.

“We need to get out of the way,” the officer told a sports reporter. “Now he’s going to jail and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Scheffler was charged with felony assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and failing to signal a traffic officer, according to local reports. WDRB Citing court records.

Shortly after 9 a.m. ET, Scheffler was recorded on video entering the golf course after his release and was scheduled to tee off at 10:08 a.m.

Mr. Scheffler was released and ordered to have no contact with the victim or any witnesses who may be police officers.

His court date is scheduled for May 21, 2024 in Jefferson District Court.

A Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson told the media that the man who died was struck by a bus in a bus lane while attempting to cross the street early in the morning. The man reportedly died at the scene.
