Scottie Scheffler criticizes LIV golfers as PGA discussions continue

As the partnership takes charge of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, Scottie Scheffler reflects on those who lost their lives in the Saudi-backed league that began three years ago.

“I’ve mentioned this a couple of times this year. If you really want to know what’s going on in golf, just talk to the guys on the other tours,” Scheffler, who recently clinched victory at the PGA Championship, stated on Wednesday before the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

“I’m still competing on the PGA Tour. We’ve participated in various tours together, and it’s really up to those who left to bring everyone back together. Just look at the lineup for this week.”

Scheffler’s remarks highlighted that LIV Golf has not held an event this week and won’t return to the tee for another two weeks, when he plays at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.

Nearly two years ago, the PGA Tour announced that Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund would invest in the combined tour, merging with LIV Golf.

However, that hasn’t materialized yet, and discussions of collaboration between the tours continue in hopes of maintaining a competitive field among the best players worldwide.

At just 28, Scheffler recently secured his third major championship at Quazur Hollow, where LIV golfers Bryson DeChambeau and John Lahm also competed.

When asked if he believed his performance would have been different if he had played against LIV Golf players, Scheffler responded, “Who knows? I can only compete with those guys four times a year. That’s their decision, not mine.”

“Ultimately, I’m focused on competing here and doing my best. That’s really what matters, right?”

“We have a few chances to compete with them. We did well last week, and another opportunity comes up here soon.”

Oakmont’s US Open is set to begin on June 12. DeChambeau won the event at Pinehurst last year.
