Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault on a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving, and failure to signal a traffic officer.

It is alleged that he drove his car past a police officer who was directing traffic and did not stop when instructed to do so. Officers tackled Scheffler’s car and dragged him away. Louisville Detective Brian Gillis was injured in the incident, according to an arrest report.

Scheffler’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday. The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to FOX News Digital’s requests for comment.

Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor Craig Greenberg said Saturday that no body camera footage of the incident between Scheffler and Gillis existed.

“The officer did not have his body camera footage turned on during the incident,” Greenberg said via wire service Saturday. Louisville Courier Journal. “We will release the footage that we have… To my knowledge, no footage of Officer Gillis’ initial contact with Mr. Scheffler has yet been discovered.”

Greenberg said there was a “fixed camera” across the street from where the incident occurred. He wasn’t sure if Gillis was wearing a body camera. He did not say whether Scheffler’s charges would be reduced.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington was near the scene of the incident and captured footage of Scheffler being loaded into the back of a police vehicle.

Scheffler on Friday called the incident a “huge misunderstanding.”

“This morning I was acting on instructions from a police officer. It was a very chaotic situation, which is understandable given the tragic accident that had occurred earlier. “There was a big misunderstanding about that,” he said. He said. “I had no intention of ignoring the instructions. Today I want to put that aside and focus on golf.”
