Golf fans are eagerly awaiting the next Tiger Woods. As the dust settles from his reign, it’s becoming clearer that we may never see Woods again.
But one positive that comes from this recognition is that golf fans can once again debate who they believe is the best player in the world.
The only two I can think of at this point are Scotty Scheffler and Jon Rahm.
Rahm is a two-time major champion and Masters winner. He was elected a total of four times last year, and Scheffler even said he would probably vote the Spaniard POY at the end of 2023. The Golf Writers Association of America subsequently named Rahm the 2023 PGA Tour Player of the Year.
His raw power combined with the amazing work around the greens he showed in Rome for the Ryder Cup makes him hard to beat.
But if anyone can do it, it’s Scheffler.
The Texan is the top-ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings. Indeed, nearly everyone in the golf world is aware of his OWGR problems. I’m not just talking about LIV Golf players.
But when you watch Scheffler play, you realize just how great he is. Last year, he won the Jack Nicklaus Award over Rahm. This award is given by the PGA Tour to the player considered to be the best player of the year.

He is No. 1 in nearly every metric on the PGA Tour this season.
He also won the Arnold Palmer Classic and The Players Championship in consecutive weeks, earning two wins. In doing so, he also became the first player to win back-to-back titles at The Players.
Scheffler’s ball hitting is phenomenal, comparable to Woods in his prime.
So, the question is, who did we get?
