Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Championship arrest has golf fans losing their minds

Louisville police arrested Scotty Scheffler early Friday morning in an incident that stemmed from a misunderstanding about traffic flow.

The news created a strange and unprecedented scene outside Valhalla Golf Club, which was extensively documented by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.

Scheffler tried to bypass traffic and enter the golf course after police closed the road because of the fatal crash early Friday morning.

However, a police officer then ordered Scheffler to stop, and Scheffler was arrested and taken into custody. Mr. Scheffler remained in custody, and police did not say whether he would arrive by 10:08 a.m. ET. The PGA of America has delayed the start of the second round of the PGA Championship by one hour and 20 minutes.

Naturally, this situation led to a barrage of social media posts early in the morning, with golf fans losing their minds over Scheffler’s arrest.

Following the incident, players and fans alike began posting “#FreeScottie.”

Afterwards, many fans and prominent golf accounts asked Golf Channel analyst Johnson Wagner to reenact the scene. Wagner has become a cult hero in recent months, recreating his golf course moments on Golf Channel’s Live From Corner. Last week, he offered his thoughts on Xander Schauffele’s loss at the Wells Fargo Championship. He also recreated Rory McIlroy’s drive and subsequent drop at The Players in March.

This incredibly strange situation is still ongoing, and fans will continue to share their opinions on social media.
