Scottie Scheffler’s Streak Comes to an End
Scottie Scheffler, currently the world’s top golfer, is set to miss the Genesis Scottish Open. This marks the end of his impressive streak of 78 consecutive tournaments over the last four years.
After two rounds, Scheffler stands at even par and is projected to fall short of the cut, which is at 2 under. He hasn’t faced a missed cut since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August 2022, and now his winning streak stretches quite a bit ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick’s impressive record of 27, totaling 51.
Nonetheless, he remains far from Tiger Woods’ astonishing record of 125 consecutive tournaments played from February 1998 until May 2025. Scheffler commented, “I got off to a tough start, but I didn’t feel like I was hitting it close enough to give myself a good chance on the back nine,” referencing his recent performance.
He further elaborated, “I think that’s what it really comes down to. A bad start, and not enough solid shots to keep up the momentum.” In Thursday’s initial round, he shot a 68, featuring four birdies and two bogeys, while Friday proved harder with a 72, including two eagles and four bogeys.
In total, Scheffler found himself hitting only 11 of 26 fairways and 23 of 36 greens. If he doesn’t make the cut, it would signify his first finish outside the top 25 at a PGA event since the 2024 BMW Championship.
Looking ahead to next weekend’s British Open Championship, it’s notable that he hasn’t won an event since taking the title at the American Express in January. “Some marquee events didn’t make the cut, so things are a little different now,” Scheffler noted, acknowledging the shift. “But I don’t think I’ve finished outside the top 20 too often this year.”
“I’m proud of my consistency, but I wish I’d taken a few days over the weekend to regroup. Getting to Birkdale earlier than expected, I just need to adjust to this new course,” he added.
