Police are searching for a convicted prisoner who escaped from guards while attending a funeral.
Jamie Ross, 29, was last seen near the Cameron Toll Shopping Center in Edinburgh, Scotland, at around 12:28pm on Tuesday. Police say Ross has connections across Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Police are asking people not to approach him and to contact police immediately to help track him down. Police say he is white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair, bushy eyebrows, blue eyes and a tattoo of the word “Dad” on his right hand. He was last seen wearing a black down jacket, dark pants, and gray sweatshirts.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hamilton, of Police Scotland, said: “A major investigation is ongoing to trace Jamie, with support from specialist police officers. Jamie is believed to have links to south Edinburgh; We are remaining open about his whereabouts at this time and encourage anyone with information to contact us.
“If you see a man matching Jamie’s description, we urge you not to approach him and to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1458 of Tuesday 23 April.”
A spokesperson for prisoner transport service GEOAmey said: “Our officers recognize the emotional importance of events such as funerals and strive to show compassion and understanding when transporting people in custody. “There is,” he said. It is therefore unfortunate that this is being exploited and used as an opportunity to escape custody. ”
The Scottish Prison Service said it could not comment on individual cases but was working with police to trace Ross. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this person is currently at large illegally. We will work with Police Scotland to bring him back into custody.”
