‘Scrubs’ Actress Sarah Chalke Addresses Fans Upset About JD and Elliot’s Separation in the Revival: “I Assure You, This Was the Best Approach”

Fans React to JD and Elliot’s Divorce in the Scrubs Revival

As the revival of *Scrubs* unfolds, fans are expressing their disbelief over JD and Elliot’s divorce. Sarah Chalke, who plays Elliot, offers some insights on this surprising turn of events.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead for the First Two Episodes of *Scrubs* Revival, Now Streaming on Hulu**

It’s understandable for fans to feel let down that her character, Elliot, doesn’t end up with JD, played by Zach Braff. Still, Chalke encourages fans to be patient as the storyline develops. “I want them to be together too. Believe me, this is the right choice,” she shared during a recent premiere in Los Angeles. “I was thrilled when I read the script. There’s a sense of things moving in the right direction without too much drama.”

In the newly released episodes, viewers quickly discover that, years after ending Season 8 with a marriage, JD and Elliot are now divorced and struggling with their relationship. In the first episode, titled “My Return,” they even find themselves hiding in a closet—just like in the original pilot—to avoid causing a scene in front of colleagues.

Time has changed a lot since the original series aired. Both Elliot and Turk (Donald Faison) are seasoned doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital, while JD has shifted to being a concierge doctor, making house calls for affluent clients. It’s actually one of these clients that leads him back to Sacred Heart, where he is coaxed by Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) into taking a position he can’t refuse.

As JD and Elliot navigate their newfound status—having undergone serious couples therapy and managed a legal separation—they still struggle to be in the same room together. The ongoing season promises deeper exploration into their challenges and how they’ll re-adjust at work.

Chalke feels this narrative is essential for an authentic revival of the show. “This definitely opens up avenues for conflict and growth between the two characters, which I think is important,” she noted. “I’m actually really excited to see how we adapt and who we become in this new phase of our relationship.”

Right now, there’s no reason for alarm. The story is just getting started, and it seems that JD and Elliot have a lot of figuring out to do. Let’s give them some time.

The first two episodes of *Scrubs* are currently available on Hulu. New episodes air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and can be streamed the following day on Hulu.
