New Ownership for the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are about to change hands, and it’s quite the twist in the narrative of rivalries in the division.
A consortium led by Vinod Khosla has confirmed its agreement to purchase the team. Reports suggest the transaction will set a record, with a sale price of approximately $9.612 billion—marking the highest figure in NFL history.
Khosla, known as a venture capitalist and a significant figure in Silicon Valley, previously became a non-controlling limited partner of the 49ers back in May 2025.
In a statement, Khosla expressed his excitement, saying, “I am honored to be named the next steward of the Seattle Seahawks. I look forward to building on the winning legacy established by Paul Allen and earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and our fans around the world.”
However, for the deal to go through, it still requires approval from the NFL. Reports indicate that a meeting has been scheduled in August for owners to discuss and potentially endorse the sale.
A memo circulated to NFL teams mentioned that the Khosla family will need to divest from their involvement with the 49ers to satisfy ownership requirements.
After the Seahawks’ 2026 Super Bowl victory, Paul G. Allen’s estate initiated the formal process to sell the team. Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft, bought the Seahawks in 1997 for around $200 million. Following his death in 2018, his sister Jody Allen took over as the team’s president.
According to Forbes, Khosla’s net worth is estimated at $13.7 billion, and the Seahawks were previously valued at $6.7 billion.
The Commanders are the last NFL team to have been sold, done so in 2023 for $6.05 billion, which was then the highest price for any North American sports franchise until it was surpassed by the Lakers’ sale for $10 billion last year.
Interestingly, after the Khosla family acquired stakes in the 49ers, Khosla’s son, Neil, hinted at their passion for the sport, noting their long history as season ticket holders. “For us, becoming part of the 49ers family is a dream come true,” he stated, reflecting on their commitment to their local community and team.
If this transaction is approved, the Khosla family will step into a heated rivalry in the NFC West.
