DeMarcus Lawrence Finds New Opportunity with Seahawks

SAN JOSE, Calif. — He was proven right.

After spending 11 years with one organization, contributing on the defensive line and achieving multiple victories yet never reaching the NFC Championship or Super Bowl, 33-year-old DeMarcus Lawrence has embarked on a new chapter. The Seahawks have rejuvenated his career, signing him to a three-year deal valued at $42 million.

“Dallas is my hometown,” Lawrence expressed previously. “But you certainly can’t win a Super Bowl there.”

It’s hard to believe he might secure a victory in his debut season with Seattle.

“I have nothing to say,” Lawrence remarked on Monday night during an opening ceremony at the San Jose Convention Center. “Shout out to my teammates for getting me this far. We are here.”

Indeed, the Seahawks have arrived, and Lawrence is a significant factor in their success.

During his time with the Cowboys, he earned five Pro Bowl selections, but this new opportunity holds a different kind of significance.

There isn’t a Pro Bowl, but there is the chance for a Super Bowl.

Did he take a jab at the Cowboys by saying they can’t win in Dallas?

“It’s just about recognizing the situation realistically. Football isn’t a long-term game for any player, and your window closes quickly,” he explained. “You have to win now. I see what Seattle is building, and I wanted to be part of it.”

Lawrence is a familiar face to Giants fans, having dominated them for years.

He wasn’t shy about taking subtle digs at Eli Manning. When the Giants picked Daniel Jones in the first round of the 2019 draft, his reaction on social media was simply: “Fresh meat.”

He often referred to Jones as “little Eli,” which was hardly affectionate.

The Seahawks currently lead the league in scoring defense, with Lawrence being one of the driving forces behind that success.

He started all 16 games this season, racking up six sacks.

The quarterback hits he collected were the highest in a season since 2018.

In Week 10, he exceeded expectations by recovering two fumbles and returning both for touchdowns in a victory over the Cardinals, 44-22.

It was no shock when he was named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Lawrence has made impactful plays, helping his team reach the Super Bowl—a milestone he couldn’t achieve with the Cowboys.

So, what happened there?

“That,” Lawrence said, “that’s for them to find out.”
