During the Super Bowl celebrations on Sunday night, Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones took a moment to check in on Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.
While the Seahawks secured a commanding victory over the Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Nacua seemed to draw attention, potentially overshadowing Sam Darnold. But there was no backing down from Jones. He messaged Nacua, jokingly asking, “Aren’t you home? Stupid ass.”
Nacua had made a rather vague post earlier that just read “Sam Darnold” followed by a crying emoji, leaving some speculation about its meaning.
Jones, who played alongside Nacua with the Rams in the 2023 season, clearly interpreted Nacua’s tweet as a jab. Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho echoed this sentiment, saying, “Puka needs to relax and respect Sam Darnold! Sam Darnold beat Puka to win the Super Bowl, so why on earth is Puka laughing?!”
Darnold had a standout performance in the NFC Championship Game against the Rams, propelling the Seahawks to the Super Bowl. However, his performance against the Patriots was less impressive, completing just 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown.
As for Nacua, he hasn’t responded to the backlash over his post. However, he did later acknowledge Darnold’s teammate Cooper Kupp, expressing admiration by resharing an image of the two-time Super Bowl champion and posting “Cooooooop.”
