Ryan Grubb spent the past few seasons helping build the Washington Huskies’ prolific offensive line. The star assistant coach then appears to have inked a deal with former University of Alabama head coach Karen DeBoer.
Within three days, Grubb even reportedly told Alabama’s boosters of his intention to coach the Crimson Tide’s offense starting in 2024.
But in a surprising turn of events this week, Grubb has decided to return to Washington State and take the offensive coordinator job with the Seattle Seahawks, NFL Network reported.

The Seahawks recently began a search for their next offensive coordinator after Zahne Waldron left to take the same role with the Chicago Bears. Grubb will likely end up working under first-year Seahawks coach Mike McDonald.
Steve Belichick joins Washington as defensive coordinator: Report
McDonald spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. He is currently the youngest head coach in the NFL. Before joining Washington’s football staff, Grubb spent five seasons at Fresno State in various assistant coaching roles.

Grubb’s arrival in Seattle will be his first NFL coaching job. He specifically coached quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who committed to Washington in 2022.

Penix Jr. is expected to be a top pick in this year’s draft and attract attention from multiple NFL teams. Veteran QB Geno Smith has signed with the Seahawks in 2024. Smith had a uneven 2023 season, but that could be motivation for Seattle to draft a young QB to build the team for the future.
