Seahawks' Sam Darnold's availability for the 49ers game is reportedly uncertain.

The Seattle Seahawks are heading into the NFC divisional round, but there’s some uncertainty surrounding the health of their quarterback, Sam Darnold.

During practice on Thursday, Darnold felt a strain in his oblique muscle while attempting a throw, prompting him to stop and seek rehabilitation. At 28, he hasn’t thrown since then, but the Seahawks are optimistic that he will be ready to play in Saturday’s game. Still, it’s uncertain. Backup quarterback, Drew Lock, has taken over first-team duties in recent days and is set to start if Darnold can’t go.

Darnold mentioned, “I didn’t want to overdo it. It wasn’t a push day, so I went home and did some rehab. I feel like I’m ready for Saturday.” This is a first for him in dealing with oblique issues, but he seems determined to be on the field.

When asked about the possibility of sitting out, Darnold confidently replied, “The odds are very low. Probably close to zero.”

This season, Darnold has performed exceptionally, leading the Seahawks to a 14-3 record and securing the NFC West title, along with the top seed in the NFC. He achieved a 67.7% completion rate, amassing 4,048 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, resulting in another Pro Bowl selection.

If Darnold is unable to play against the 49ers, it would be a significant setback. Lock has only played in five games this season, during which he threw just three passes.

Lock was a starter for the New York Giants last season, finishing with a 1-4 record and a completion rate of 59.1%. He passed for 1,071 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions over 28 career starts, holding a 10-18 career record.

Offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak expressed confidence in Lock, stating, “Drew was really impressive throughout OTAs and training camp. I have a lot of faith in him. We brought him here for a reason.”

The top-seeded Seahawks face the sixth-seeded 49ers on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
