A lawyer for Sean “Diddy” Combs has requested that he serve his prison sentence at Fort Dix, a low-security facility in New Jersey. He was sentenced on Friday to four years and two months in connection with two prostitution-related charges and is also required to pay a $500,000 fine.
One of Combs’ attorneys, Tenny Jelagos, submitted a letter to the judge suggesting that Fort Dix would be suitable for addressing substance abuse issues while promoting family visits and rehabilitation opportunities.
Fort Dix is known for being a low-security federal prison with more accessible visiting options than higher-security facilities. It has housed several notable inmates, including former NFL star Aaron Hernandez and actor Robert Downey Jr.
If Combs is transferred to this facility, there are specific guidelines regarding available food, drinks, and personal care items, which would provide insight into what he might have access to while incarcerated.
Diddy’s Trial and Sentencing
Combs was at the center of a high-profile trial earlier this year that drew significant attention due to allegations of human trafficking and prostitution. He was acquitted of assault charges, but ultimately found guilty on two counts related to the Mann Act, which deals with transporting individuals for illegal sexual purposes. He faced a maximum sentence of 20 years.
Prosecutors recommended a sentence of 11 years and three months, arguing this duration would properly reflect his misconduct. They noted that their suggested sentence aligned with those typically handed down in similar cases.
Judge Arun Subramanian imposed a sentence of just over four years, stating that prison would be difficult for Combs, keeping him away from family and friends, but reminded him that life continues even after serving his time.
While the court has suggested Fort Dix, the final decision rests with the Prison Bureau. Combs’ legal team has indicated plans to appeal the sentence.
