Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faced 2001 NYC shooting trial, was acquitted by jury

The newly indicted Sean “Diddy” Combs was tried in New York City for firing a gun inside a Manhattan club in 2001 but was acquitted by a jury at the time.

Combs was on trial for an incident that occurred on December 29, 1999, at Club New York on West 43rd Street in which three club-goers were injured.

Combs is specifically accused of firing one shot into the ceiling of a Midtown dance club and then working with his then-girlfriend, superstar Jennifer Lopez, to try to bribe driver Wardell Fenderson to take the blame for a second gun found in the getaway car.

What we know about the allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs

Combs, who was 31 at the time, could have faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the top charge, but told jurors he fired in self-defense.

“I thought I'd been shot,” he said on the witness stand at the time.
