Diddy Seeks Release Ahead of Sentencing

Shawn “Diddy” Combs is making a bold attempt to secure his release from prison before his sentencing scheduled for October. This comes after a New York judge acquitted him of the most serious sexual offense he faced.

His attorney is advocating for a $50 million bond package that would allow Combs to stay under house arrest at his Miami mansion while waiting for the final verdict concerning two prostitution convictions.

“Shawn Combs shouldn’t go to prison for this,” wrote Mark Agnifilo, Combs’ lawyer, in a court letter. “Honestly, he might be the only person in the U.S. currently incarcerated for simply being a client.”

The legal team is facing an uphill battle, as the judge, Arun Subramanian, had previously dismissed similar arguments to release him prior to sentencing. Combs remains in a Brooklyn detention center, with the judge noting the violence linked to his past relationships, including with R&B singer Cassie Ventura.

Subramanian expressed reservations about Combs’ potential danger to others, stating, “It’s hard to prove that the defendant doesn’t pose any threat.”

If convictions for the more severe charges were finalized in the ongoing trial, Combs could face a life sentence. These charges stem from his previously revealed unconventional preferences in relationships.

The judge highlighted violations of the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. Prosecutors are contemplating a sentence ranging from 51 to 63 months, while Combs’ camp plans to request his timely release.

Subramanian has given federal prosecutors until Thursday to respond to Combs’ release motions.
