Sean “Diddy” Combs is looking to serve a 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, aiming for enrollment in a drug treatment and rehabilitation program.
His legal team submitted a request on Monday after he received a reduced sentence for prostitution-related offenses on Friday.
The court has suggested that to tackle substance abuse, they hope the Bureau of Prisons can recommend Combs for placement at FCI Fort Dix for the Residential Substance Abuse Program (RDAP) and other educational resources.
RDAP is the most comprehensive treatment program offered in that facility.
If everything goes as planned, considering the 14 months he’s already served, the 55-year-old could be released in three years.
During his trial in Manhattan federal court, details emerged about Combs’ extravagant parties, which were heavily influenced by drugs and included unusual activities.
In the lead-up to his sentencing, Combs began participating in various self-improvement initiatives to address his substance use and issues related to violence against women.
Experts suggest this was a tactical decision aimed at achieving a lighter sentence, linking his actions to drug use and mental health challenges.
On the day before his sentencing, Combs reached out to the judge in a letter, asking for a “second chance” and highlighting his commitment to sobriety as proof of his efforts.
“I am proud to say I’m working harder than ever and am dedicated to staying drug-free, non-violent, and at peace. I thank God for giving me strength and clarity,” he wrote.
He also acknowledged that he “got lost in drugs and excess” during his time in the spotlight.
