Testimony of Violence at Diddy Combs’ Trial
In New York, singer Dawn Richard testified in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing sex trafficking trial, describing a threatening incident where Combs allegedly warned her against reporting his physical abuse of his girlfriend. Richard recounted how Combs threatened her life after he swung a frying pan, following a violent episode involving his longtime partner, Cassandra “Cathy” Ventura. She stated that he had seen both her and another woman witness this attack.
When questioned by US lawyer Aide Mitzi Steiner, Richard indicated that Combs’ threats implied they could “go missing” or “die.” This alarming encounter took place during her time working with Combs in the music trio Dirty Money.
As the trial unfolds, Combs faces accusations of exploiting his status to exert control and abuse women over a span of two decades. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, with his legal team arguing that the evidence presented regarding domestic violence does not constitute a federal crime.
Testimony has included insights from Kathy’s best friend and a former assistant, who detailed how Combs allegedly operated a criminal assault organization that made his partners feel trapped.
Richard shared her observations of Combs’ violent behavior, recalling several instances during her visits to his recording studio. She described seeing him punch, kick, and suffocate his girlfriend whenever she expressed her opinions.
Defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland suggested that Richard’s testimony might stem from personal grievances related to her past with Combs and an ongoing lawsuit against him. Richard admitted feeling that Combs had harmed her career, not just once, but twice.
Another witness, Kelly Morgan, who was a close friend of Kathy, testified about witnessing Combs’ aggression. Morgan described how she encouraged Kathy to end the relationship, noting the negative impact it had on her friend’s demeanor and career.
Finally, David James, a former personal assistant to Combs, recalled the dynamics of Combs’ relationship with Kathy, describing her as “very moldable,” indicating that Combs exerted significant influence over her life and career decisions.
