Hannity said this year's honorees are “a wide variety of people” and deserve recognition. That includes President-elect Donald Trump, who previously announced that Hannity would receive the Patriot Award.
“When you think about everything he's been through, he didn't need to run for president again… Think about what he risked,” Hannity said. “So his political opponents tried everything to put this man in prison…He was millimeters away from losing his life. So what did he do? He stood up. I said, “Fight, fight.'' “Fight.'' 'So, in my view, pretty amazing courage under fire.
“So I think that makes him very deserving. And I think the fact that he's able to attend is a great honor for us and for all of the Patriot Award and other recipients. I'm sure they He'll be happy.''It's exciting for everyone to meet him and meet him.'' ”

Hannity recalled that the 2016 election and last month's election were about “the forgotten men and women of this country,” who the Patriot Award recognizes.
“They're not what people write about. They're the unsung heroes, they're generous, they're dedicated, they're true patriots,” Hannity said. “They never win awards. They never get any recognition. And for us to go out of our way to highlight them and have the president be a part of it makes it even more special. But I think focusing on them and recognizing them is recognizing what really makes this country special and great.”
He continued, “We are the most generous people on this planet. And people give up their time and donate to charity. They do heroic and patriotic things that give courage. And I give them a special night.'' I think that's what makes it really special for me, the attention that they wouldn't get otherwise. ”
