Sean McVay's reaction to the cold weather for the Rams-Bears matchup

McVay Unfazed by Cold Weather Ahead of Divisional-Round Matchup

Sean McVay seems quite at ease about the chilly temperatures expected for Sunday’s playoff game against the Bears, where it could dip to around 2 degrees at Soldier Field in Chicago.

When asked about his clothing choices, the Rams’ head coach stated confidently that the cold won’t be an issue for him. “I’ll be shirtless,” he joked, before adding more seriously, “Matthew Stafford introduced me to wetsuits when he came here, so I might wear that. An electric heating vest might be a good idea too—I’ve seen some players using them. I trust that Brendan Berger, our equipment guy, has prepared everything I need.”

McVay mentioned he’s planning to check out the wetsuit with Stafford after practice, stating that he usually doesn’t mind the cold. He emphasized that it’s really about the players on the field. “Berg takes good care of me,” he noted, alluding to his equipment manager.

When questioned about whether his undershorts might hinder his sideline coaching, McVay remained assured. “I’m doing fine, don’t worry about me,” he said. “What do you think? Am I going to look like the Michelin Man? No way! Seriously, Berg has dressed me well for a long time. It’s never been a problem.”

Reflecting on his past stubborn choices, such as refusing to wear a beanie, he humorously reassured that he has learned from his mother and wife: “I’m in a better place now.”

However, the cold does raise certain concerns for the Rams, especially with Stafford’s not-so-stellar record of 1-9 in cold, rainy, or snowy conditions since joining the team. Yet, Stafford himself seems mentally prepared, reportedly opting to wear a scuba suit under his uniform for this outing.

“That’s just how it is,” he commented. “I don’t care about the weather, really. It’s all about preparation; we’ve got to have a solid week leading up to the game to increase our chances of success.”

Interestingly, Stafford seems to be channeling some inspiration from NFL great Tom Brady, who was known to wear a wetsuit under his uniform during his time with the Patriots.
