Sean Payton predicts big things for Bo Nix over the next two years

Payton’s Trust in Nix Fuels Broncos’ Future

Everyone needs someone in their corner, and Bonix definitely has that. Broncos head coach Sean Payton has expressed strong confidence in his young quarterback.

“I expect him to be one of the top four or five quarterbacks in the league for the next two years,” Payton mentioned in an interview with Yahoo Sports. “That’s our perspective right now. He has exceptional arm strength and he doesn’t shy away from making big throws. He even threw the longest ball—67 air yards—against Cincinnati, and he can run as well.”

The Knicks—Bonix’s team—showed some impressive moments as rookies, racking up 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, plus 430 rushing yards with four more touchdowns.

During his college years, Bonix played three seasons at Auburn and then spent two at Oregon. It was in that final season with the Ducks when he really made a name for himself, notably leading the nation in both completions and completion percentage.

Though he was the 12th overall pick in the 2024 draft, he had five other quarterbacks selected before him. Still, Payton seems to think he’ll rise above them all.

Last season, Bonix was the second most successful rookie quarterback, guiding the Broncos to a 10-7 record and earning a spot in the playoffs.

With a 25-year-old quarterback at the helm, Payton’s aspirations extend beyond just personal success for Nix; he has high hopes for the entire team.

“Our immediate goal is to win the division,” he remarked. “But we really believe this team has what it takes to win the Super Bowl. I’ve coached six teams that I felt could win it all. I’ve been to the Championship Game and the playoffs.”

During his 15 years coaching the Saints, Payton won one Super Bowl and was known for his role in helping Drew Brees become one of the greatest quarterbacks in the sport.
