Police Search for Son After Mother’s Fatal Shooting in Massachusetts
Authorities in Massachusetts are in search of a 22-year-old man who is believed to be driving a black Dodge Charger. This comes after his mother was discovered dead from a gunshot wound in her kitchen early Thursday morning.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan stated that Reading police received a call at approximately 12:38 a.m. Thursday from the victim’s husband. He returned to their home on Center Avenue, only to find his wife deceased in the kitchen, as mentioned during a press briefing broadcasted by local media.
The caller has been identified as 48-year-old Matthew Hanafin, while the victim is identified as his wife, Andria Hanafin, aged 49. Their 13-year-old child was reportedly at home during this tragic incident.
The person of interest in this case has been named as their older son, 22-year-old Ryan Hanafin, who is now the focus of a manhunt.
Ryan is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall. The police have released a photograph showing him with shoulder-length blonde hair, a mustache, and glasses.
The district attorney mentioned that there hasn’t been any notable history of police calls to the family residence.
Authorities believe Ryan Hanafin may be driving a black 2010 Dodge Charger with the Massachusetts license plate 2PSY15.
According to reports, the younger son had been out with friends until around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. He mentioned to police that upon returning home, he went directly to his bedroom and did not see his mother. Matthew Hanafin told investigators he had not been in communication with his older son since Wednesday morning.
Reading Police Chief David J. Clark reiterated that while Ryan Hanafin is a person of interest, he should be considered “potentially armed and dangerous.” Anyone who spots him or his vehicle is strongly urged to call 911.
“Please do not approach him,” Clark warned. “Contact 911 or your local police department if you come across him. Stay safe and do not put yourself in danger.”
This situation is still developing.
