Search for US Navy Sailor Who Vanished from Virginia Barracks: 'She Just Stopped Existing'

The search is ongoing for Angelina Petra Recendis, a 21-year-old US Navy sailor last seen in her barracks on May 29th. She is now classified as a highly missing adult. “She just stopped,” mentioned Recendis’ mother.

At the time of writing, Recendis had been missing for a week, and there are concerns for her safety.

On Tuesday, Virginia State Police issued a highly missing adult alert for US sailors in collaboration with the Naval Criminal Investigation Bureau. They are looking for a young woman aged 21.

Authorities describe Recendis as a white/Hispanic woman, standing 5’0″ and weighing about 110 pounds, with brown eyes and dark hair. She was last spotted at her barracks in Miller Hall at the Norfolk Navy Bureau around 10 AM on May 29th.

Virginia State Police reported they do not have details on what Recendis was wearing at the time she went missing.

They noted, “She was last seen with clothing of an unknown description and without a known vehicle.”

Furthermore, authorities have not clarified why they believe Navy personnel may be at risk.

Esmeralda Castle, Recendis’ mother, expressed her concern, saying that “Angie” normally keeps in touch with her family daily.

She further shared that Recendis has maintained a 400-day Snapstreak with her sister on Snapchat, meaning they communicate every day. “Every day she talks to either family or friends,” Castle said.

Snapstreaks are a feature on Snapchat that tracks consecutive days that two users exchange snaps. If one fails to send a snap within 24 hours, the streak resets to zero.

Regarding her disappearance, Castle shared, “She just stopped reaching out on Thursday. No calls, no messages. She just vanished.”

Last week, Castle communicated with Navy officials after a friend alerted her that Recendis missed work and that she hadn’t heard from her daughter.

“This isn’t like Angie. I just want to find her,” the mother stated.

Describing her daughter, Castle noted, “She’s incredibly kind and loving,” and highlighted Recendis’ commitment to her Navy career and expertise in culinary skills.

Anyone who may have information about Recendis is urged to contact Navy Criminal Investigation Services at (877) 579-3648.
