Teen Arrested in Penn State Student’s Murder, Second Suspect Sought

U.S. Marshals have announced the arrest of a sixteen-year-old in Colorado, tied to the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt. Philadelphia police confirm that both teenagers will face adult charges stemming from a robbery and shooting that occurred on June 6. The second suspect, Kaiseem Smith, is still on the run, prompting authorities to issue a wanted poster.

A search began Saturday night for a suspected gunman near the University of Notre Dame after shots were reported in the Eddy Street Commons area, coinciding with the Notre Dame football game against Michigan State.

The university’s emergency alert system indicated that the suspect was last seen in the southern part of the campus as law enforcement continued to search the area.

People inside Notre Dame Stadium were advised to stay inside, while those on campus were told to find shelter.

Incident Details

According to the alert, the suspect is described as a heavy-set Black male wearing blue shorts, a black shirt, and one white shoe.

The first call to St. Joseph County Dispatch came at around 7:37 p.m., as reported by ABC57.

One individual was taken to a hospital, but officials haven’t shared details regarding the person’s condition or the specifics of the gunfire incident.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while the search is ongoing.
