Investigation Launched After Student Assault at Towson University
Officials at Towson University in Maryland are looking into an assault that took place on campus during the early morning hours. The incident was reported around 8:55 a.m. Thursday when a student alerted police that he had been attacked in Parking Lot 11.
According to university representatives, the victim described being chased by a suspect from an off-campus location into the parking lot. It appears that this chase was part of a street assault.
Authorities reported that the suspect, a man driving a dark sedan, exited his vehicle, assaulted the student, and then proceeded to slash the tires of the victim’s car before fleeing the scene.
The student sustained injuries but declined medical assistance when emergency services arrived. Although officials stress that the attack was not random, they are encouraging students to stay alert as the university police work to locate the suspect.
“Ensuring the safety of our campus community is our highest priority,” the university stated.
In recent years, Towson University has seen an uptick in reported crimes. In 2025, there were 672 criminal incidents recorded on campus, with assault reports rising from 46 in 2023 to 59 in 2024. So far this year, 34 assaults have already been reported.
