Traitors Season 4 Recap

Sometimes, everything just clicks in games like Traitors. Season 4 of the Peacock reality series is a shining example of that.

**Major spoiler alert: Traitors Season 4 finale now streaming on Peacock**

After 10 episodes filled with deception and strategy, Season 4 Episode 11, titled “Leap of Faith,” concluded with a surprising winner who walked away with more than $220,000. The champion? First-day traitor and contestant from Love Island, Rob Rausch.

It’s tough to set aside personal feelings and analyze the situation objectively, but much of my perspective hinges on strategy. And frankly, Rob executed an outstanding game plan. That’s just a fact.

While the Faithfuls spent most of the season aimlessly trying different approaches, Rob was much more calculated. He assessed every decision at each roundtable and expulsion, thinking strategically about what would lead to the best outcome for him. It was like he was playing chess while others were just throwing darts.

Candice Dillard Bassett made a critical mistake a few episodes back, allowing her emotions to drive her actions, which ultimately led to her ousting. Similarly, Lisa Rinna overcommitted, sealing her fate as well.

Maintaining a cool demeanor and sharp focus is crucial for anyone making it to that final moment of truth, and that’s exactly how Rob secured his spot in the finale with Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, Eric Nam, and Maura Higgins. Though he couldn’t fully control the dynamics between the two skating stars, he had solid influence over Eric and Maura, who stuck closely by him.

Before the finale dropped, I had suggested Eric should act extra loyal to deflect suspicion, but that didn’t pan out. The Faithfuls, much like they had through the season, seemed directionless and couldn’t even manage to remove Rob until their last chance.

In the end, Rob crafted a plan: he persuaded Maura that Johnny and Tara needed to go, all while planting seeds of doubt about Eric. While he clearly steered the voting, he recognized that sticking with Maura was the smartest way to secure a win. She was his golden ticket to that $220,000 prize, and I genuinely respect her for that.

It’s true that Eric became a necessary but expendable pawn. After losing both Lisa and Candice, Rob had to bring in a traitor, but I believe he would have saved another innocent if given the opportunity. Eric’s time as a traitor was brief, merely serving as a means to an end. If he hadn’t been so underwhelming, splitting the winnings would’ve felt profoundly unfair.

Reflecting on season 3, if Brittany Haynes had successfully schemed and deceived, I might have felt disappointed she didn’t receive the full payout for her strategic plays. That’s how I felt about Eric; I can’t really muster any sympathy for his elimination. He simply wasn’t cut out for this from the start, and I stand by that.

If the Faithfuls had shown even a hint of a cohesive strategy throughout Season 4, I might have rooted for them to uncover Rob’s schemes, but their disarray ultimately pushed me to cheer for him. Interestingly, others who were eliminated echoed my sentiments, expressing admiration for Rob’s gameplay.

Let me clarify: if I had witnessed Rob commit act after act of betrayal only to see him falter at the last moment, I would have felt a deep sense of loss akin to what any viewer might experience. Ironically, despite his remorse, I trusted he’d devise a master plan, lead Maura through, and execute it flawlessly.

To be honest, Maura’s reaction surprised me. She bounced back quicker than I do when I lose a sock in the wash. It seemed like she was really invested in understanding this as just a game—and perhaps I’m putting too much faith in Rob here, but I think he knew Maura would remain oblivious to his intentions until the very end. But maybe that’s just speculation.

In the grand scheme of things, I think Rob was always destined to win this round—and do it solo. He carries the torch of Traitors with pride, standing among the greats like Survivor’s legendary Cyree Fields. So, Rob’s place in the upcoming All-Star season is firmly established, and I’ll be eagerly watching when he returns for another go.

All of Season 4 of Traitors is currently streaming on Peacock.
