After a gripping and intense season, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) from night agent is finally taking a break from his high-stakes missions. However, as soon as the credits roll on season 3, fans will definitely be eager to see him back in action, especially since the series is based on Matthew Quirk’s compelling novel.
Throughout season 3, Peter grapples with his role, especially with the absence of Rose Larkin (Lucien Buchanan) and Katharine Weaver (Amanda Warren). Yet, by the end of the tenth episode, it becomes clear that he still has what it takes to take down the villains, thanks to some good allies.
The season kicks off with Peter on the hunt for Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma), a financial investigator who has fled to Istanbul and is suspected of murdering his boss. As Peter investigates, he realizes—surprisingly—that Jay isn’t guilty. Instead, Jay was only trying to bring attention to suspicious financial dealings tied to terrorist activities. After promising to bring Jay back to the U.S. for protection, Peter teams up with reporter Isabel de Leon (Genesis Rodriguez) who helps to expose the conspirators, including Jacob Monroe (Louis Hersam), President Hagan (Ward Horton), and FLOTUS Jenny Hagan (Jennifer Morrison). At the end of season 3, Peter steps back from his Night Agent role, but it leaves the door open for season 4.
The big question is: will night agent get a season 4? Has Netflix given the official nod for another season? Are the writers back at work? Here’s what we know about the future of the series and any updates from creator Sean Ryan.
Will there be a season 4? night agent On Netflix?
As of now, Netflix had not officially renewed night agent for a fourth season by the time season 3 premiered. Still, the series remains incredibly popular with both viewers and creators. Sean Ryan provides an optimistic glimpse into the future in a chat with Deadline.
“While it hasn’t been officially decided, we quietly agreed that the writers’ room would start working in 2025,” Ryan shared, mentioning that they’ve actually begun the writing process. “We’ve been developing the storyline for a while. A few scripts are in the works. We have some deadlines coming up, so there’s time.”
It’s worth noting that Netflix took about three and a half months after season 2 aired to announce the third season, which means there’s still some hope for season 4. Ryan hinted that financial matters and various behind-the-scenes elements are still being sorted out.
“To Netflix’s credit, they do want to ensure the creative aspects are in place before committing a significant budget,” Ryan explained. “We’re at a point where we’re developing the story and crafting the script, but I suspect they’ll make an official decision soon, maybe within a month.” If Netflix greenlights it, they seem ready to keep the momentum going, ensuring not too much time elapses between seasons of their most successful shows.
