A maniac who stabbed nine people in a series of random attacks over two days in Seattle, Washington has been arrested, police said.
Over a 38-hour period, the unnamed suspect stabbed victims in a roughly four-block area in the city's Chinatown International District, Seattle police said.
Four of the victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center after the random stabbing.
All of those patients were hospitalized in critical condition, but two remained in critical condition as of Friday night. According to the Associated Press. As of Friday, one other victim was upgraded to satisfactory condition and another to critical condition.
One of the victims, a 53-year-old man, was stabbed in the neck and was bleeding profusely before receiving treatment, police said.
Police followed the blood trail left by the victim as part of their investigation. According to SPD blotter.
Seattle police say the suspect stabbed five people on Friday and is suspected in four more stabbings in the same area on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Eric Burden cited a similar suspect description and criminal profile as reasons to believe the same man was involved in both attacks, according to the Associated Press.
“This was clearly an indiscriminate assault by one individual over a period of 38 hours,” Burden said Friday at the crime scene, the newspaper reported.
SPD said they found the suspect based on witness testimony. He was found with a weapon nearby, according to the Associated Press.
A 53-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were stabbed multiple times in the Chinatown area on Thursday, police said.
“The stabbings in Little Saigon and the Chinatown International District are horrific, appalling and should never happen anywhere in the city,” said Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. stated in a statement.
“Everyone feels safe and should feel safe, and I am committed to making available efforts to improve the safety of Little Saigon and the historic Chinatown International District for all residents, workers, and visitors.” We remain committed to utilizing every tool at our disposal,” the mayor wrote.
A 10th stabbing on Thursday night may also be part of this maniac's rampage. Police said the assailant tried to steal a cell phone from a 60-year-old man who was sitting in his car. The assailant brandished a knife at the victim's chest, but was able to avoid it with his hand.
