The revelation came after a British tabloid published details about the family’s secret.
The announcement follows on from the outlet Daily MailEmhoff’s previous marriage ended after an affair with his daughter’s nanny, teacher Najen Naylor, who was discovered pregnant with Emhoff’s child. New York Post Naylor’s identity was reported.
The circumstances surrounding the relationship and affair were already known to Joe Biden’s vetting committee four years ago, as Harris was going through the vice presidential selection process after winning enough delegates to be selected as his running mate, a person familiar with the conversations said. Ms. Harris’ sudden rise to the top of the Democratic field meant that Mr. Emhoff’s two adult children from his first marriage were all raised in a warm and caring home environment.
Doug, 59, and his ex-wife Kirsten, 57, were married from 1992 to 2008. After his affair came to light, Doug, now on his second husband, and his ex-wife, who works as a film producer, separated in 2009. Doug then remarried Harris, also 59, in 2014.
Records show the couple’s divorce filing stated they had “irreconcilable differences.”
Ella, a 25-year-old fashion designer and occasional model, and Cole, 29, are the former couple’s two children.
