Second-grader uses Heimlich maneuver to save choking classmate: video

The North Carolina sophomore is welcomed with heroes after using life-saving skills he learned on YouTube with a classmate who began choking while bored.

9-year-old Jatheon Brunch played basketball with friends at Raleigh Oak Charter Primary School on March 3rd. Classmate Donimour had a hard time keeling and exhaling as he began choking on the granola bar. According to footage obtained by WRAL News.

The older boy gets caught up in the action without hesitation, reaching around Moore's body to successfully perform two compressions of the Heimlich manipulation. The video has been displayed.

“We were playing basketball and he ate granola bars. We started playing longer before he started choking,” Brunch told the local outlet.

“I just did my thing because I didn't know he was actually choking, it was Heimrich. I learned that from watching YouTube.”

Branch said he was inspired to learn how to rescue after witnessing the teacher previously using Heimrich to save the life of another choked student.

“This is really a prime example of that, as we teach our kids to take care of each other. Jaytheon jumped into action so quickly. We're really proud of him,” Johnson told WRAL.

The boys' parents were also impressed after seeing the surveillance footage. They said the young student formed even stronger bonds following the fatal incident.

“In the beginning he didn't realize he had to be given control of Heimrich or anything like that,” Moore's mother, Aja, told Wala.

“It was amazing. I'm grateful that his friend was able to demonstrate it to him.”

The school reportedly held “applause” for its young Savior. Branches walking through the school hall with Moore as parents, teachers and students cheered them on.
