In a video update posted to X on Wednesday, Musk and other Neuralink developers spoke about the future of the device, confirming that a second surgery on a human subject will likely take place next week.

Musk spoke about future plans for the product, saying that humans will be able to fully control their smart devices using only their thoughts.

“Think of the Neuralink device as something like a Fitbit or an Apple Watch with thin wires or electrodes. These thin wires are implanted in your brain to read and write electrical signals,” Musk said.

Musk assured the public that his team is taking steps to mitigate the risks associated with implants, such as chipping away at the skull and inserting electrode wires deeper into the brain.
