Security for presidential candidates is one of the “highest” priorities for the Department of Homeland Security, which also oversees the U.S. Secret Service, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a tweet at 8:43 p.m. after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Mayorkas, who has previously said the welfare of immigrants is his top priority, posted the tweet about two hours and 20 minutes after President Trump was apparently shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Our number one priority is to get these [deported migrant] “We were keenly aware that these people are in their developmental years,” he said, “sometimes with children as young as 3 years old. We’re addressing the needs and vulnerabilities of not only the children, but of course the mothers and fathers, the people who make up these families.”
