In Minneapolis, tensions escalated following the shooting of a protester, which the Trump administration claimed occurred during an attempt to run over a federal agent. Videos circulating from the scene show demonstrators confronting federal officers, with some shouting threats like “I’m going to kill you” and “I hope you suffer,” as they threw snowballs at vehicles.
One particularly striking clip depicted federal vehicles surrounded by protesters chanting “ICE go!” The White House labeled these individuals as “left-wing agitators.” Another video showed a protester viciously wishing death upon U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino, who in turn responded that they were enforcing Title VIII, which allows for the arrest of undocumented immigrants without prior criminal offenses.
There are reports of protesters further escalating the situation by physically confronting federal officials. In one instance, a demonstrator struck an agent with a sign, leading to their arrest by police.
Tricia McLoughlin, an assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, remarked on the increasing violence against law enforcement, asserting that there had been a shocking rise in death threats and incidents of protesters using vehicles as weapons. She emphasized that federal agents remain committed to arresting dangerous criminals, regardless of their immigration status.
The incident resulting in the protester’s death involved 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who, according to federal agents, attempted to run them over during a larger operation aimed at addressing immigration fraud and detaining undocumented individuals in the state.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the encounter as potentially domestic terrorism, noting that the situation left ICE officers fearing for their safety. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that Good was shot in the head and died later at a medical facility.
