Kamala Harris Shares a Laugh with Stephen Colbert
Former Vice President Kamala Harris was in high spirits Thursday during her appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show, particularly when discussing her new book.
This marked Colbert’s first interview after the recent election, just as he prepares to release his upcoming book, “107 Days.” The laughter prompted by Harris stemmed from her revelation that the book contains “a lot of personal stuff.”
“There’s quite a bit of personal content. Poor Doug. For instance, my birthday is in October, and the election is in November. You see where I’m going with this? Dougy kind of dropped the ball on my big birthday celebration. You really have to read the book,” Harris explained, still giggling.
In the course of the interview, Harris mentioned she decided not to run for governor of California, citing that the “system” feels “broken.” Despite her extensive experience in politics, including roles as California’s Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and Vice President, she expressed concern about the current state of affairs.
Colbert also pressed her on who currently leads the Democrats. Harris danced around the question, noting that there are “so many names” among Democratic leadership and hesitated to list anyone, perhaps worried about excluding someone significant.
“I won’t go through all the names because I’d inevitably leave someone out and then hear about it. But I think it’s essential for us to engage genuinely with the situation; it really is on us,” she stated.
Harris’s political future seems uncertain following her loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Speculation among Democratic donors and strategists about her potential candidacy in the 2028 primary or the California governor’s race is growing, especially as significant financial investments continue pouring into campaigns and celebrity endorsements.
