See Orel Hershiser amusingly tease Mike Scioscia at a dealership in Chino

Awkward Moments at Hershiser’s Dealership Opening

When Mike Scioscia showed up to support his former Dodgers teammate Orel Hershiser at the opening of Hershiser’s new car dealership in Chino, he likely didn’t anticipate being met with boos.

During the event, speakers emphasized how significant their district is to Orange County and expressed pride in representing the Angels. Almost immediately, jeers erupted from the Dodgers fans present. Hershiser, clearly taken aback, jokingly exited the stage, leaving Scioscia in an uncomfortable spot on stage.

After acknowledging the crowd’s reaction, one speaker remarked, “It’s hard to cheer for the Angels when you’re from L.A.” This prompted Hershiser to return to the stage, poke fun at Scioscia, and crack a joke about the boos. “I hope they don’t boo me,” Scioscia chimed in, which lightened the mood and made the audience laugh.

Despite the laughter, Hershiser wasn’t done having fun. He took off his World Series ring to show it to Scioscia, but then jokingly pretended to bump into him, catching Scioscia’s attention for a moment.

Scioscia is well-regarded, having spent 13 years with the Dodgers and clinching two World Series titles in 1981 and 1988. He later managed the Angels from 2000 to 2018, becoming a significant figure in that franchise.

After the event, Hershiser commented on their interactions, recalling a remark from a fan about Scioscia being on “the dark side.” Hershiser quipped back, “Here’s Coach Angel, the world champion,” to which Scioscia playfully told him not to let the crowd get to him.
