‘Seeing Mike Tyson Battling a Baby’: Democrats Allegedly Find KJP’s Promotion of Her Book Hilarious

On Wednesday, Politico shared that several Democratic lawmakers are expressing displeasure over former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s recent book promotion.

Jean-Pierre, who served during President Joe Biden’s administration, is now in the spotlight with his memoir, “The Independent: Inside the Broken White House, Looking Outside the Party Lines.” The book reflects on notable events that influenced his choice to leave the Democratic Party. Some of Biden’s former staff have privately discussed why Jean-Pierre struggles to articulate his memoir’s messages more effectively.

Jean-Pierre has not been available for comments regarding the criticism.

A seasoned communications strategist from the Democratic Party described Jean-Pierre’s book tour as reminiscent of a “car accident”—something intriguing to observe. “She was the top communicator for the president, yet she falters in basic interviews,” the strategist remarked.

Other Democratic strategists have drawn comparisons to Jean-Pierre’s policies, which have faced significant scrutiny. In a recent discussion, Jean-Pierre elaborated on his book at length, stating, “I watched Mike Tyson fight a baby,” according to Politico.

Jeremy Edwards, a former press secretary for Biden, mentioned in a post on X that Jean-Pierre’s interview with The New Yorker was “objectively bad.”

One anonymous colleague who worked with Jean-Pierre reflected, “It’s like watching a child plunge into the deep end of a pool,” in relation to his book appearances.

Another anonymous former colleague suggested that Jean-Pierre “appears to lack understanding” regarding his own book’s content. Some Democrats shared their confusion about his focus, especially as the party gears up for 2024.

“This really highlights the current situation,” remarked another ex-Biden official. “The book’s premise feels illogical. Revisiting these topics now isn’t useful; we should be concentrating on countering Trump,” they emphasized.

“There’s a lot of jargon in his interview, which just hasn’t been effective. It seems overly centered on identity, pulling us back instead of helping us move forward,” said the same official.

Jennifer Palmieri, who worked as White House communications director under President Obama, commented that Jean-Pierre has always maintained an independent voice in politics. While her views may not surprise many, she believes the book merely reflects one individual’s perspective without making a significant impact on the party.

This comes at a time when many Democratic leaders are pushing for a shift in the party’s image as they look ahead to the 2026 midterms. Some have criticized the current party messaging for being excessively negative.

On Thursday, SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly critiqued Jean-Pierre for repeatedly emphasizing her identity as “black and queer.” Former CNN host Jim Acosta even raised concerns in a recent episode about Biden’s health and the implications for the presidency.

Interestingly, Jean-Pierre hinted in his book that calls for an open primary after Biden steps back from seeking re-election could be viewed as disrespectful to Vice President Kamala Harris.

One anonymous Democratic strategist remarked, “She adds to a troubling narrative about [Biden]. The history discussed focuses more on his turmoil than his achievements.”
