Yolanda Sardivar, the murderer of music icon Serena Quintanira Perez, was denied parole by the Texas Parole Board on Thursday.
Saldívar has served a life sentence in Texas for the past 30 years. This was the first time she has faced parole since her sentence.
Serena's widow Chris Perez shared a lengthy statement On Instagram After the sentence, he said he was “thank” the Texas Commission on Pardonment and Parole.

“We reaffirm that justice continues to support a beautiful life that has been taken too quickly from us and millions of fans around the world,” Chris said.

“Serena's legacy is one of love, music and inspiration. She lives with joy, gives selflessness, and continues to elevate generations with her voice and spirit. Saldívar will be eligible for parole on March 30th.

Saldivar's family said Posts, “She has a place to live. We've never abandoned her. But we don't know where she'll get a job. Who'll hire her?”
The outlet previously spoke with inmates at the Patrick L. O'Daniel unit in Gatesville, Texas, where the Saldivar is being held.
“Everyone knows who Yolanda Sardiva is,” Marisol Lopez, who served with her from 2017 to 2022, told the outlet. “There's grace in her head. Everyone wants a piece of her. She hates her so much that the guards keep her away from others. [in general population]someone will try to get her down. ”

Sardiva fatally shot Quintanilla-Pérez, known simply as Serena, on March 31, 1995. After the Latin pop star discovered that Saldívar embezzled the reported $30,000 from her clothing boutique. Saldívar still denies stealing from pop stars.

In February 2024, Sardivar sat for a new prison interview featured in the oxygen docusary “Serena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between They.”
During the Doxalie, Sardivar insisted he had no intention of killing Quintanira Perez. Instead, she insisted that she would end her life. However, in a series of unfortunate events, the gun is said to have set off and instead turned 23.

“It surprised me,” Sardivar said. “I didn't know that the gun was ringing. I didn't know that it hit her. It scared her and scared me. I never intended to harm her.

“My decision was my decision and the outcome was mine,” she said. “I regret all of that. If I can turn the time back, if I can turn the clock, I don't think that much like them is like that. [are]. And I want people to know that they just miss Serena like they do. so. But I know I will see her again in heaven. I know I'll do that. She didn't deserve to die.

“Sorry for her gone,” Sardivar said. “I am very sorry that her family is hurt, and I am very sorry that my family is hurt.
Saldívar was convicted of first-degree murder on October 23, 1995.
