Hannity: Macklemore’s rhetoric has been shameful for years

Sean Hannity from Fox News discussed the recent removal of rapper Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s tour following Macklemore’s support for a ‘Free Palestine’ stance. He reflected on the backlash surrounding it, touching upon the broader issues of free speech, public accountability, and the renewed conversations about celebrities engaging in political activism.

Actress Selma Blair recently shared that after making an anti-Islam comment on Instagram during the Israel-Hamas war in February 2024, she found herself in a tough spot with no one returning her calls. This hard-hitting reaction led to the loss of not only representation but also brand partnerships and friendships.

Her comments came two years after she publicly criticized then-Rep. Cori Bush and current Rep. Rashida Tlaib for voting against a bill that would prevent individuals linked to the October 7 Hamas attack from entering the U.S. In a now-deleted response to immigration reform advocate Abraham Hamra, she had said, in part, “Deport all these terrorist supporting goons,” blaming Islam for ruining Muslim countries and negatively influencing minds elsewhere.

Even after apologizing shortly after the backlash, Blair noted that she faced a rapid fallout. At a recent reception for the Anti-Defamation League, she recounted how quickly her collaborations disappeared. “The brands I worked with were gone within a day,” she mentioned during an event at The Jewish Museum in New York.

Blair elaborated on how her connections, like her agency and even her legal representation, vanished. “No one returned my calls,” she lamented, emphasizing that her missing partnerships felt like a significant loss. While she apologized for her comments right away, she insisted that they shouldn’t define her. She also spoke about her resilience and the rebuilding of her career post-multiple sclerosis diagnosis, firmly stating that she wasn’t seeking sympathy.

In other news, Blair expressed some thoughts on the ongoing situation surrounding Macklemore, who was removed from Sheeran’s U.S. tour due to his comments that upset some venues. She didn’t name anyone directly but discussed a recent petition led by actor Javier Bardem, aimed at calling for singer Pink’s removal as a UNICEF ambassador.

Blair recounted how a movie star tried to rally against an artist like Pink after she criticized Macklemore’s remarks while performing, saying, “For saying what she thought, a movie star spent his week trying to get her canceled.” She pointed out how this incident reflects a larger problem of losing humanity in discourse. A woman dedicated to fundraising for children shouldn’t be seen as just a target by those who can’t see the full person behind the cause.

Additionally, Blair has joined a film project titled “Schmoolie the Deathwatcher” and has started working on a documentary about antisemitism, named “Hineni,” which translates to “Here I am.” She emphasized during her talk that antisemitism needs to end and not just be tolerated or explained. “I’m a Jew. I’m still here. Hineni,” she declared, underlining her resolve to speak out on these crucial issues.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Blair for further comments.
