Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) was receiving intravenous antibiotics at a local hospital to treat an infection, his office announced Tuesday.
“He is in good spirits and plans to return to work as soon as possible as directed by his doctors,” the statement said.

No other details were disclosed.

Mr. Grassley, 90, was first elected to the Senate in 1980 and has been re-elected seven times.
He became the oldest member of the Senate following the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in September.

Ms. Feinstein faced criticism over her declining health and ability to serve in later years.
