Cortez Masto Responds to Booker’s Criticism
Senator Katherine Cortez Masto recently voiced her frustrations with Senator Cory Booker during an interview with the New York Times. The tension arose when Cortez Masto was asked to respond to Booker’s claims that some Democrats, including herself, were too aligned with President Trump’s agenda.
In her response, Mast emphasized that they have been actively pushing back against the administration since arriving in the Senate. “We don’t need anyone to teach us how to resist this administration. We’ve been doing it since 2016, when both Trump won and I secured my Senate seat. I understand the struggles of coming from a swing state,” she asserted, as reported by the New York Times.
Booker had previously criticized his Democratic colleague, suggesting that her actions were in collaboration with Trump. He expressed concerns over legislation that allows the president to unfairly choose who benefits from certain policies without necessary amendments.
“This is complicity with the authoritarian leaders who are undermining our nation,” Booker argued. “It’s crucial for Democrats to show strength and draw the line. When my national security is at risk due to denied grants, I’ll be here standing firm.”
Booker’s objections stemmed from the recent passage of a package focused on enhancing law enforcement resources, which he felt was a step away from the party’s principles.
The legislation in question was thoroughly discussed and approved through committee motions before being brought to the Senate floor. Cortez Masto believes that the laws passed would serve to benefit people nationwide.
“Why are we rejecting beneficial laws that can aid everyone? That seems illogical. We need a functioning government to restore American trust in us,” she remarked. “Ultimately, winning is vital. We need to focus on swing states and the concerns of these voters, addressing what truly matters to them.”
