Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) argued that the Republican Party has “flipped” the stereotypes of the major political parties, telling Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that Trump’s Republican Party is the party of the working class, while Democrats pander to “Big Tech billionaires” and Hollywood stars.

“The Republican Party has changed today. The conventional wisdom used to be that Republicans were the party of the rich and Democrats were the party of the poor and the working class, but that’s all changed today,” he said.

“The Democrats are the party of the wealthy coastal elites, and the Republicans are the party of working-class men and women, the blue-collar workers,” he continued.

Cruz joined former President Trump’s push to repeal the tip tax, arguing that tipped workers largely vote Republican, and added that he plans to introduce legislation this week to exempt tips from federal income tax.

“People who are waiters or tip earners, whether they’re golf caddies or taxi drivers, are often people who are starting to move up economically,” he said, citing the example of his own father, who emigrated from Cuba in 1957 and went from washing dishes to working for IBM, starting a business and becoming a pastor.

“Helping people climb that ladder is really important,” he added.

Instead, he slammed President Biden’s attendance at a glitzy Hollywood fundraiser on Saturday that featured stars including George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand.

A fundraiser at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles raised a staggering $30 million for Trump’s campaign, and many of his supporters worry that the former president is gaining ground or even leading in several key battleground states that could determine the outcome of this November’s election.

Biden wins gold medal in California, one week after Trump’s landslide victory in Democratic stronghold

“That’s his base, and that’s who the Democrats are fighting: the billionaire environmentalists in California. Those are the people they care about. Those are the people who are in league with China. Those are the people the Democrats care about,” he said.

“But if you’re actually talking about steelworkers, if you’re talking about taxi drivers, if you’re talking about waiters and waitresses, the Democrats abandoned those workers a long time ago.
