Sen. Dick Durbin Displays Poster of Alex Pretti, Which Turns Out to Be False

Senator Durbin’s Controversial Display

There’s going to be some serious repercussions in the props department, that’s for sure.

On the Senate floor, Democratic Illinois State Senator Dick Durbin made quite a statement. He expressed condemnation over the deaths of American citizens at the hands of federal immigration agents, demanding accountability from the previous administration. His social media posts highlighted the tragic case of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old man who was shot by Border Patrol agents during a recent incident.

Durbin held up a graphic photo while speaking, claiming it illustrated the horror of the moment. “This photo shows the last moments before it exploded,” he said, referring to the shooting in Minneapolis, but the image he presented raised eyebrows. It featured, oddly enough, an ICE agent without a head.

However, there’s a twist—this photo didn’t capture Pretti’s final moments at all. It appears to be generated by AI, which begs the question of why one of the agents in the image is missing a head. What’s more, reports suggest Pretti was actually killed by Border Patrol, not ICE agents.

It seems like Durbin’s office didn’t create these AI images themselves. After Pretti’s death, the image had circulated somewhat in liberal online spaces, with one Facebook post from the previous Sunday surfacing. Durbin reportedly brought this same headless image to the Senate floor.

Since the incident, even more AI-generated images of Pretti have appeared. One video prominently featured a modified thumbnail of Pretti’s image, where the creators admitted mistakes in their description, stating that it was once an AI-enhanced version of him.

Additionally, another AI image depicts Pretti in nurse’s scrubs, seemingly helping two men with prosthetic legs in physical therapy. It’s as though there’s a concerted effort to shape a particular narrative around Pretti—some might see it as a bit excessive.
