Senate Republicans Push for Investigation into Planned Parenthood’s Use of Taxpayer Funds
With the congressional ban on using tax dollars for Planned Parenthood about to end, Senate Republicans are eager to delve into the substantial taxpayer money that allegedly supports the organization’s promotion of transgender treatments.
Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri, in a letter acquired by a news outlet, insists that the family planning system should be scrutinized. He claims around $1.5 billion in Medicare and Medicaid funds are allocated to organizations that endorse transgender treatments for minors.
Planned Parenthood did not respond to requests for a comment regarding this issue.
Hawley expresses concerns about taxpayer funds supporting changes to minors’ genders.
He has urged the administrator of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services to investigate the family planning system as part of ongoing efforts to uncover fraud in federally funded health care programs.
“We need to focus on the family planning system and its role in imposing what I call ‘transgender insanity’ on young children,” he stated.
Last year, Republicans prevented federal funding from reaching abortion providers through a bill that President Trump promoted. However, this restriction is set to expire on July 4.

Hawley and other Republicans have sought to extend this ban, attempting earlier this year to attach an amendment to the latest budget reconciliation proposal that would keep the ban in place until 2035.
His current objective is to determine whether the $1.5 billion in funding has been directed toward recommending gender-affirming drugs or surgeries for minors.
Hawley has accused Planned Parenthood of “exploiting legal loopholes” to provide potentially dangerous sex-change drugs to minors without parental consent.
Trump’s $350 billion military initiative facing Republican doubts.
“This organization openly markets its provision of sex reassignment drugs and refers individuals for surgeries,” Hawley argues. “A recent report indicates that the provision of this so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ has surged by 40% annually.”
Hawley highlights funding flows from 2019 to 2022, tracked by the Comptroller’s Office, noting that the first public report does not specify how these funds were utilized for transgender surgery or medication.
Taxpayer dollars directed from the needy to family planning initiatives.
“In effect, billions from taxpayers—especially the poor and seniors—are supporting family planning services,” he claimed, adding that these funds seemingly assist Planned Parenthood in providing transgender procedures to children.
