Sen. Josh Hawley ‘delighted’ to back Sen. John Cornyn for Senate Majority Leader

Republican senators are expected to choose a new Senate Republican leader next week, with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) endorsing Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) for the role.

Republican senators will vote by secret ballot on Wednesday, November 13th.

“I support John Cornyn as the candidate for Majority Leader,” Hawley said in a statement. “Over the past two years, no one has done more to restore the majority than he has. He has tirelessly raised millions of dollars for competitive Senate races, including me.”

“He has a heart for people. He voiced support for the RECA compromise that would provide fair compensation to hundreds of thousands of Americans poisoned by our government, including many people in Missouri.” Mr. Hawley continued.

“And I know he will work closely and effectively with President Trump to deliver on the promise of the new majority. I am pleased to support him,” he concluded. .

In addition to Cornyn, Republican Sens. Rick Scott (Florida) and John Thune (South Dakota) are also vying for Senate Republican leadership.

Mr. Thune currently serves as Senate Republican whip, a position previously held by Mr. Cornyn. Scott previously served as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

Republicans will gain a majority in the Senate in the 2024 elections.

Earlier this year, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. He has been at the helm of the Senate Republican Party since 2007, and has announced that his current term as Senate Republican leader will be his last.

Scott appeared on Fox Business' “Kudlow” and said he hopes President-elect Donald Trump will support him in his role.

Thune appeared on CNBC's “Squawk Box” and said he hoped Trump would “stay out” of the leadership race.
