Sen. Klobuchar hit for 2 AM post taking credit for passage of $1.2 trillion spending budget: ‘You’re welcome’

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) sparked a wave of anger after touting passing the latest government spending bill and avoiding a government shutdown.

In a post shared with X just after 2 a.m. ET on Saturday, Klobuchar told her followers, “You’re welcome” about the $1.2 trillion federal spending package.

She wrote, “Hello 2ams! For those still awake, we passed a budget and avoided a shutdown. You’re welcome.”

The spending package passed 74-24 in the Senate, but faced further opposition when it came to a vote in the House, where a majority of Republicans voted against it. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) filed a motion calling for the removal of Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.), who pushed through the policy.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) also scrapped the policy, saying it did not provide funding to secure the U.S. southern border. “Republicans who vote for this bill should be ashamed,” he said.

Several Republican senators slammed the bill’s passage, criticizing those who introduced the 1,012-page bill with less than two days before a vote.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) told Fox News Digital that this is a “totally absurd, insulting and lawless suggestion that this is proper legislative process.”

Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida added, “This is an insane way to run a country.”

Conservatives also objected to advances such as groups handing out chest binders to transgender children, not to mention a huge budget for a country already saddled with about $35 trillion in debt and still plagued by inflation. The package has been criticized for allocating funds to specific purposes.

Klobuchar’s support for Mr. X in passing the package was not well-received by conservatives on the platform.

Author and conservative commentator John Hawkins criticized the MP, saying: “That’s the government in a nutshell: It wastes an astonishing amount of money on useless garbage that we never wanted it to do in the first place, and we’re grateful for it.” I’m looking for something,” he wrote.

“They have the audacity to pretend they’re doing you a favor…inflation. #Godspeed,” posted professional basketball player and 2024 U.S. Senate candidate Royce White.

Heavy metal singer and conservative commentator Phil Labonte slammed Klobuchar’s post, saying, “That ‘you’re welcome’ is like hammering nails into a chalkboard.”

“We wanted the government to shut down because we’re tired of them wasting our money,” said former UFC fighter Jake Shields.

Commenter Doug Powers responded to Klobuchar’s post with a graph of the current national debt, writing, “Yeah, thanks.”

Conservative music artist Five Times August slammed the senator, saying, “You’re a pretty awful person.”
