Sen. McCormick Unsatisfied with Assassination Attempt Responses
During a recent rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Senator David McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) expressed his dissatisfaction with the information about the 2024 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. McCormick, who was present during the incident, mentioned in an interview that he feels there are still unanswered questions, especially concerning the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks.
“I’m not satisfied,” McCormick stated, recalling a moment where Trump humorously remarked that he had prevented McCormick from being on stage right before the shooting occurred.
He raised concerns about the security breaches, saying, “It seems hard to imagine such an intrusion, such a breach of security, such a breach of protocol.” He admitted that while he’s not typically one to buy into conspiracy theories, the proximity of the shooter—under 150 yards—prompted him to question the circumstances.
The conversation shifted when the host, Miranda Devine, pointed out that it seemed strange for a young man like Crooks, who was believed to be socially isolated, to have a hidden social media presence. McCormick couldn’t provide an explanation for this secrecy, reflecting a broader concern about the unresolved nature of the investigation.
“If things are not fundamentally resolved, even if there are legitimate answers, there will be distrust,” he warned.
Eric Trump, President Trump’s son, also shared his frustration during a conversation with Devine, echoing McCormick’s sentiments. When asked if he was satisfied with the current information about the assassination attempt, he replied, “No,” and expressed his anger about the lack of transparency.
The assassination attempt occurred during a campaign rally on July 13, 2024, where Trump was injured, and a volunteer firefighter named Corey Comperatore was tragically killed. A Secret Service sniper ended Crooks’s life shortly after the attack.
