Sen. Tim Sheehy Criticizes Issues with Birthright Citizenship Exposed in 'The Invisible Coup'

Sen. Tim Sheehy Discusses New Book on Immigration

WASHINGTON, DC — During a recent policy event, Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.) shed light on the insights from Peter Schweitzer’s latest book, The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon.

Released in January, this best-selling book lays bare how countries like China and Mexico have leveraged the weaknesses in America’s immigration system to undermine the nation for their own interests.

In an interview with Breitbart News’ Washington bureau chief, Matthew Boyle, Sheehy defined himself as “pro-legal immigrant” while firmly opposing illegal immigration that poses risks to the U.S.

“I’m pro-immigration. I’m pro-legal immigration. Without immigrants, we wouldn’t have people like Elon Musk or the First Lady,” Sheehy stated. “We want smart, hardworking individuals to come to America, build businesses, and contribute. That’s the backbone of our country.”

He expressed concern that this system has been taken advantage of from both sides—not just by those who misuse it but also by government officials pushing for mass, unchecked immigration, particularly by Democrats.

In Invisible Coup, Schweitzer highlights ways elite groups in China have misused America’s birthright citizenship laws by participating in birth tours before returning children born in the U.S. to China. The book warns that soon, over a million Chinese nationals raised in communist China will be able to vote in U.S. elections.

Sheehy rejected claims from the left that the Republican Party promotes racism and xenophobia, asserting the importance of clarifying the party’s stance on the downsides of mass immigration and birthright citizenship.

“We support individuals who wish to embrace our values and enhance this great nation,” he told Boyle. “What we oppose, however, is allowing individuals with ill intentions to enter our borders, exploit our systems, and act at the behest of foreign entities. That’s precisely what’s happening now.”

He pointed out that birthright citizenship was formally established in the U.S. Constitution with the 14th Amendment in 1868 and wasn’t meant to be a blanket policy for anyone born on American soil.

“It’s not enough just to be born here. We also need to be part of a legally recognized family unit,” he added.

Schweitzer’s book The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon made its debut at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list and is available for purchase.
