Senator Urges Trump to Reinstate Pro-Life Rule

Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Thursday, asking him to reinstate the “Pro-Life Rule,” which restricts Title X funding from going to abortion clinics. Young, along with nine other senators, expressed their concerns in a letter obtained by Fox News Digital.

In the letter, the senators recalled that during Trump’s first term, specifically in March 2019, the administration had introduced and finalized pro-life regulations. “This rule prevents Title X family planning funds from being directed to clinics that perform, facilitate, or refer abortions, thereby requiring a clear separation between Title X programs and any abortion services,” Young wrote.

He highlighted that as a result of the earlier rules, organizations like Planned Parenthood were excluded from the program for refusing to comply. Funding, he noted, was redirected to community health centers that provide genuine family planning services without promoting abortion.

Young criticized the current Biden-Harris administration for reversing these policies. He stated, “We stand ready to assist your administration in restoring the policy by issuing new proposed rules with the same purpose.”

The pro-life rule was similar to regulations established by former President Ronald Reagan which prevented Title X funds from supporting the abortion industry.

The letter emphasized that the principles behind the pro-life rule are embedded within the text of Title X. It referenced Section 1008 of the Public Health Service Act, which has historically prohibited the use of Title X funds for programs where abortion is considered a method of family planning. “Your first administration respected that legal obligation, but the Biden-Harris administration has abandoned it,” the letter stated.

The senators who signed the letter include Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebraska), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.). They reiterated their commitment to collaborating with the administration on this crucial matter, asserting that taxpayers shouldn’t be compelled to fund actions leading to the loss of innocent lives.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comments regarding this appeal.
