A Republican senator is facing ridicule after expressing concerns about pilots potentially engaging in what he termed a “deranged fetish.” He has, however, countered the mockery with potentially unsettling evidence to support his assertion.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville from Alabama delivered a passionate speech in the Senate on Wednesday, criticizing the transgender agenda. While his entire 18-minute address might not have gained widespread attention, a brief segment focused on the “woke mind virus” went viral.

Tuberville called for a national discussion regarding the mental health crisis leading to increased “gender confusion.”
He pointed out that furries—those who participate in a subculture involving anthropomorphic animal characters—have a presence in the airline industry.
“Many airline pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers are part of the furry community. Lord help us,” he remarked. “It’s alarming to think that when you board a commercial flight, the pilot might have a bizarre obsession with dressing as an animal. You can’t make this up.”
This clip from his speech was shared on various social media platforms, where many critics from the left took to mocking Tuberville.
Most criticisms seemingly overlooked the more rational points he raised and his numerous examples of individuals with dangerous fetishes who later committed violent acts.
“Gender-confused individuals have one of the HIGHEST suicide rates among those dealing with mental health issues. Unfortunately, these gender-confused individuals aren’t just a danger to themselves—they also pose risks to others,” he posted on X the following Thursday. “GENDER CONFUSION IS A MENTAL ILLNESS.”
To reinforce his argument linking violence with “gender confusion,” Tuberville referenced Charlie Kirk, who was murdered after advocating against the transgender agenda. The accused killer, Tyler Robinson, has ties to the furry community and issues of gender confusion.
Tuberville further responded to the backlash with more supporting evidence for his claims.
“I recognize that the deranged Democrats aren’t pleased with me highlighting the insane FURRY CULTURE this week,” Tuberville stated in a social media post.
“But the reality is, there is an ALARMING number of these DERANGED individuals employed in our airline industry,” he continued. “Don’t believe me? Just a few months back, PILOTS were MEOWING and BARKING at each other over the radio at DCA.”
He shared a news clip that featured recordings of pilots behaving in this manner while on duty, with one voice admonishing them for their lack of professionalism.
“Recently at the ‘Furry Migration’ convention in Minneapolis, there was an ‘Aviation Furs Meet-up,'” he noted in a second post.
“Ask yourself … would you feel safe with a MENTALLY ILL FURRY as your pilot?” he concluded.
